PureMIDI

PureMIDI takes an audio file — an MP3 of a piano take, a hummed melody, a phone recording of a riff — and transcribes it into MIDI you can drop into a DAW and edit. This is the unglamorous but genuinely useful end of AI music tooling: the job is note detection and timing, and getting a usable starting point saves the tedium of transcribing by ear note by note. For producers, the workflow it unlocks is quick idea capture, taking something played on a real instrument and turning it into notes you can reharmonise, quantise or reassign to a different sound. It also helps arrangers and teachers who need a rough lead sheet from a recording. Expectations matter with this category. Monophonic material — a single voice, a solo line, a clean piano part — transcribes well. Dense polyphonic mixes, heavy reverb, distorted guitars and drums are where every audio-to-MIDI engine, this one included, produces artefacts: missed notes, octave errors and timing smear that need manual cleanup.
