    Coding Tools MCP

    Updated Oct 2026

Coding Tools MCP exposes a default catalog of 18 tools for file reading, search, structured multi-file changes, interactive execution and Git inspection. It supports stdio and Streamable HTTP and documents configuration for Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code and other MCP clients. The Python runtime requires Python 3.11 or later; the npm package launches it through uv or pipx. Safe, trusted and dangerous modes gate execution permissions. Linux Landlock adds filesystem confinement, but the README explicitly says this is not a complete OS sandbox. Apache-2.0 open-source runtime; bring your own MCP client/model. No server subscription listed.

    Pros

    • Works across MCP clients rather than one model vendor
    • Open-source deployment with local workspace control
    • Explicit execution boundaries

    Cons

    • Requires client configuration and a Python runtime
    • Kernel confinement is Linux-specific; untrusted work still needs a container or VM
    • Anonymous usage telemetry is enabled unless disabled
